This active group meets almost every Thursday of the year at 6:30 to 8 pm to study, openly discuss, and wrestle with scripture and how it impacts our thinking and current issues.
THE MEN’S PRAYER GROUP meets Wednesday mornings from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. here at the church.
Justice Bread is an ongoing Lutheran Social Services of Indiana (LSSI) fundraising effort to provide financial assistance for individuals and families in need. This program is made possible through a partnership with the Indiana Baking Company and volunteers within several congregations. Risen Savior is one of these congregations. For $3.00 per loaf, one can purchase a fresh loaf of bread from a variety offered each month and know that half of the proceeds go to the Cup of Kindness Program that receives referrals from LSSI for individuals and families. In many cases, financial assistance along with financial and literacy education is given to those trying to reach or maintain daily living expenses. Members of Risen Savior also purchase and use this bread for weekly communion.
We write Thank You notes on behalf of the Mission. The Mission sends handwritten thank you notes to anyone who makes a non-cash contribution to the Mission. The Risen Savior team writes the notes and addresses the envelopes based on receipts provided by the Mission.
The Light of the Cross (LOTC) is a food pantry on the southeast side of Fort Wayne where a food desert exists. Five churches, with the help of Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc., provide for low income, disabled, unemployed, and homeless in a certain defined area of the city. We do four special events per year, including: meals at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter; Family and Friends Block Party; Christmas gift shop for the children of the food bank; and community gardens. These events have given a way for LOTC to provide food, back to school supplies, personal care items, health screenings, and gifts for family members from children otherwise unable to afford them. Our main focus continues to be to help people and show them the love of Christ. Risen Savior contributes volunteers, donations, and produce from our own garden each week.
Reading Camp is offered each summer. It is designed to help 2nd-6th grade students who have fallen behind and are struggling with reading skills. The teachers are all professional teachers who volunteer their time for the program. High school and college students also volunteer in assisting the teachers. Reading Camps are held at various Lutheran Camps throughout the summer.
Every Sunday morning we collect pocket change for a selected charity, which rotates each month. Some of the past recipients include St. Patrick’s Health Clinic, Allen County Jail Ministry, Healthier Moms and Babies, Shepherd’s House, Blessings in a Backpack, Light of the Cross, Lutheran Outdoor Ministries. The contributions may be small, but they all add up to help make a difference, as well as sending the message that we care.
Risen Savior Preschool considers the total needs of the 18-month, two, three, four, and five-year old child. The program focuses on development in the areas of intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual well-being. Activities are planned by the teachers to facilitate growth in these areas. Our Christian environment is considered an essential component in enhancing the child’s sense of self-worth and total development.
Risen Savior Preschool recognizes and respects the uniqueness of each child. Our school’s primary mission is to foster a love of learning in each student. Our curriculum skillfully weaves artistic and practical disciplines into everyday academics. Students learn to follow their curiosity, to think creatively, and to work both independently and cooperatively with others. We keep the classes small so each child can also experience more one-on-one attention.
At Risen Savior Preschool we celebrate diversity and strive to instill integrity, compassion, and confidence in each child. We give each child support and encouragement to become and do their very best.
